    • A thoroughly enjoyable cozy mystery, fully fledged in a Qwickie book I m becoming addicted to the short but complete books on the market today Catherine Astolfo s first Kira Callaghan mystery is no exception Taking place in a retirement home owned and managed by Kira s sister Ailish, it is really quite heart warming to see these seniors, many with difficult idiosyncrasies of the mind, enjoying their lives I could relate Life carries on at a humorous paceow and confused, especially when the Flowe [...]

    • The title of this book is what first caught my eye, and I also liked the picture on the cover A book titled Up Chit Creek has to be a fun read, right And indeed, it met my expectations The setting is in a retirement home and being a cozy mystery, naturally there will be a dead body or two I loved how real to life the author made the characters Each one has their own quirky personality.Kira s sister manages the home and Kira and her friends, The Flower Pots, decide they will find out who is killi [...]

    • A fun and cozy mystery that held my interest throughout This was a quick read that had well developed characters that helped develop a good storyline.Kyra Callaghan and her sister Ailish find themselves in the midst of murder and mayhem at the retirement home which they run As the victims increase so do the suspects But would the elderly residents even be able to kill one another, and why This was an enjoyable read which piques my interest in reading from this talented author.

    • Yeah I bought this book for a number of reasons like it was by a new, to me, Canadian author, was supposed to be a humourous quick read and of a novella length I like that type of a read after finishing a darker serious book which I had just done with Rick Blechta s excellent A Case Of You I call them Laundromat reads as I can usually finish them in the couple of hours I have to sit in the laundromat doing my washing Now this book really let me down because it is very long novella which took me [...]

    • For years, I ve been a fan of Catherine Astolfo s Emily Taylor mystery series UP CHIT CREEK is a departure for Astolfo, both in tone and word count This is a humorous mystery, of novella length, so it can be read in one or two sittings The author s style shines through and creates a delightful tale. The setting of the story is the ReVisions Retirement Residence, which at first glance doesn t seem to lend itself to fun and games I mean, poor Mr Hummel doesn t even get a speaking part before he s s [...]

    • I just loved this novella To be frank, I was a little thrown by the beginning, when various residents were described, or classified, by their various illnesses and afflictions I found myself giggling, and then wondering if I should be But then the tone really set in, and I realized this is exactly how people speak of each other in a setting such as a retirement home Ms Astolfo absolutely hit the nail on the head. But and no spoilers but the activities of the fourth floor knocked me over If I caug [...]

    • Astolfo writes literary murder mysteries Up Chit Creek reminded my of Joan Barfoot s Exit Lines another outstanding Canadian literary novelist There is humour, There is suspense I love the way Astolfo takes us through a journey of getting old, but seeing the good side of aging The list of suspects keeps the reader guessing until the end A love story finds its way into the story just to add a little spice.
